I don t usually write reviews, but in this case, I felt it was necessary to share my experience with others. I have been a Benchmade and Spyderco customer for years. I always felt that Cold Steel wasn t up to the quality standard of the two previously mentioned brands. This past year changed my mind. In the last 12 months, I have purchased 5 Benchmades and 1 Spyderco. The Spyderco was so tight, I couldn t flick out the blade. 4 of the 5 Benchmades had issues such as blade centering, uneven blade grinds, not as sharp as it should be, and one even came missing a scale handle screw. I thought to myself, why is Benchmade sending out such trash This is their job. I could understand one issue every once in a while, but it got to the point that I was afraid to order a Benchmade, knowing that chances were I would receive a knife with an issue. Enter Cold Steel. I just happened to watch a Cold Steel video on Youtube. It was a review of the Cold Steel Voyager with the new AUS 10a steel. At the beginning of the video, the reviewer flicked out the blade with his thumb, just like you are able to do with an Axis lock. My eyes widened, and watched the rest of the video, intrigued. The Cold Steel Large Voyager has a 4 inch blade, and can be had in a clip point or tanto point blade shape. I loved the looks of the clip point blade. I paid 46. I thought, this less than half the price of the standard Benchmade Griptilian. If it doesn t work out, I m not out very much money, and I ll know from having held it in my hand, just how good or bad this Cold Steel knife is. I really just wanted to do my own little review of the knife, for my own peace of mind. I ordered from Amazon, and received the Cold Steel Larger Voyager with clip point. The knife came extremely sharp, wasn t missing any screws, the blade was well centered. Off to a good start. I tried to flick the blade open with the thumb stud, and I was able to get it to open, although not as easily as an Axis lock Griptiliian. I contacted Cold Steel customer service and explained to them that I had seen a video where the reviewer was able to flick it open pretty easily. They suggested that I open the blade 90 degrees and leave it open for a few days. I opened my blade 90 degrees and left it on my desk for one week. After seven days, I tried it again. Wow. What a difference. I am no able to open the blade using the thumb stud 95 as easy as an Axis lock. When I press the back lock to close the blade, the blade literally drops freely and almost closes on it s own weight. There are bronze and Teflon washers int he pivot. The Tri-Ad lock is one of the strongest in the knife industry. My Voyager has ZERO blade play, even though I can flick it open and close it easily. The only draw back I have seen so far is the pocket clip tension. The pocket clip is extremely tight. It is not easy to un-clip from my pocket. Half the time, I just drop the Voyager into my pocket, not using the clip. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this Cold Steel Voyager. One last detail I watched another video on Cold Steel s AUS 10a steel, and the reviewer did some rope cutting tests to test edge retention. After the testing, the reviewer stated that according to his tests, Cold Steel s AUS 10a held it s edge longer than D2, 154 cm, and VG-10. Those are some other company s standard steels. If you haven t given Cold Steel a try, what do you have to lose For 46.00, I couldn t be happier.Read full 53 ratings for Cold Steel Large Voyager Clip Pt. Plain at Amazon Reviews
