I have been a New balance user for 20 years. The 1012 was my shoe of choice and I had no issues with blisters and foot comfort in spite of the fact I train and run marathons. Based on the fact that the 1340 was the replacement shoe for the 1012, I purchased a pair. I immediately started having edge blisters on my forefoot and after many different attempts at different remedies different socks, tape, blister pads etc I decided to go back to my old pair of 1012 s. No blisters, no hot spots when I trained or ran marathons. They are beaten down so I looked at the shoes foot bed to foot bed comparison and the 1012 s are MUCH wider than the 1340 s even though the sizes are the same. I can use my 1st pair of 1340 s for short runs but went with another size -wider- for long runs and have found them back to the comfort level and no blisters thus far. Why manufacturers mess with the sizes of their shoes baffles me.
