Cork is the outer bark of the Cork Oak Tree which grows in the Mediterranean area. Cork trees are the only tree in the world that regenerates stripped bark.
Approximately 6.6 million acres of cork forest extend across Portugal, Spain, Algeria, Morocco, Italy, Tunisia and France. These oak forests support one of the world s highest levels of forest biodiversity, second only to the Amazonian rainforest.
Not a single tree is cut down to harvest cork, rather, the bark is stripped by hand every 9 years. Harvested cork oak trees can live up to 300 years.
No bark is wasted during the cork production process, and the residue is granulated to make other cork products and even cork dust is used for fuel. Harvesting cork is performed completely by hand and provides over 100,000 fair wage jobs.
All of our products are shipped using only 100 recycled or recyclable cardboard and kraft paper.
Cork oak trees store carbon in order to regenerate their bark, and a harvested cork oak tree absorbs up to five times more carbon dioxide than one that isn t harvested.
Customer reviewsGood grip for hot yoga but slips
Ok, please note I only take hot Baptiste yoga so my review is based on the mat in a very hot room. First I purchased the original yoloha mat and when my hands slipped going up to wheel and my hands slid in down dog, I needed to return it. Enter the native mat. It has much better grip for hot yoga and I love the texture compared to the lululemon and jade mats I ve tried. My problem is this the underside is THIN and slippery. The original yoloha mat has an amazing nonslip rubber bottom that was solid and great for the practice. The native mat s bottom is not the same material so it shifts around the floor a bit and slides up or back, and also sometimes bunches up for instance when I m going from right side half pigeon to left side , soI have to pull the mat back down to the floor. I thought about returning the mat but my last option would be a liforme or a lululemon and the cork just has such a great feel and smell to it and honestly the grippiness is usually- not always great. I just wish they put a quality bottom on this mat. It s frustrating because this is the more expensive one
